Representation and Realisation of Monarchical Sovereignty: the Habsburg "Imperial Journeys" from Joseph II to Franz I (II)

This project examines the personal records of the two Habsburg rulers from the decades around 1800, Joseph II and Franz I (II) with regard to the practice of sovereignty and its representation as well as the imperial view of their own country. The basis is the extensive collection of materials about the rulers' journeys in their own territory found in the Austrian State Archives (Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv) at Vienna. One focus is the reports on the main cities of the Habsburg Imperial Provinces.
