IREON — The International Relations and Area Studies Gateway

IREON is now publicly accessible at www.ireon-portal.de. For the first time, its standardized interface enables the research of specialist databases and library catalogues on foreign and defence politics, international economic and developmental political cooperation, European politics, transatlantic topics, foreign cultural politics, regional and national matters and climate and environmental topics.

When you search, you can simultaneously access the databases World Affairs Online (more than 800 000 books, essays, electronic publications and grey literature), PAIS International (more than 150 000 bibliographical references), Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (more than 200 000 data entries) and extracts from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung library catalogue. International agreements are also integrated into the search with links to the full texts. There are also links to a new Online Contents Service, with the contents listings of more than 800 specialist magazines. A specialist thesaurus in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Czech, Croatian and Russian simplifies the search.

The specialist portal is supported by the FIV (Fachinformationsverbund), the Specialist Information Network for International Relations and Area Studies, a joint venture by twelve leading German specialist information institutions and a north European research institute. The Institute has been a member of the FIV-IBLK since 1992.
