Biographisches Lexikon zur Geschichte Südosteuropas (Biographical Encyclopedia of Southeast European History) Biographisches Lexikon zur Geschichte Südosteuropas (Biographical Encyclopedia of Southeast European History). Chief editors: Mathias Bernath/Karl Nehring/Felix v. Schroeder. Editorial staff: Gerda Bartl The encyclopedia, published between 1974 and 1981, is the only reference work of its type covering the whole region and, with good reason, is still much used. In broad relevant areas, for example the Albanian-speaking area, the texts do much more than compile and draw on independent research at source. The four volumes of the encyclopedia provide reliable information on 1500 prominent individuals in southeastern European history from the end of antiquity up to 1945.
